The race for the Premier League golden boot is close heading into the final four games of the season. Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is on 21 goals, one ahead of Tottenham’s Harry Kane and two up on Chelsea’s Diego Costa (who has missed the last few games through injury).
If Costa cannot return to the Chelsea side, it’s likely that the golden boot will be won by either of the current top two scorers in the Premier League with other players likely just too far behind Aguero, as Charlie Austin is four goals back on 17 in fourth, with Arsenal duo Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez tied for fifth on 14 goals.
Aguero netted a third-minute opener in City’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa last weekend to go clear as the leading scorer on 21 goals. He will be confident of increasing that tally versus his most profitable BPL opponents, Spurs, against whom he has struck nine times in six victorious appearances.
Spurs’ Harry Kane is next in the Barclays Golden Boot standings on 20 goals and is set to feature against City for the first time in for his club, having been an unused substitute in the 4-1 loss at the Etihad Stadium last October, when Aguero scored all four for the hosts.
