The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC),
has completed the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical
Company, and will proceed on the restoration of the pipelines that supply crude
oil to the refinery.
Information gathered shows that
the NNPC decided not to be noisy about the repairs which it started early this
year in order not to attract vandalism of it asset.
It was learnt that the
Corporation’s plan is to bring all the refineries on stream before end of this
month, having completed their rehabilitation but the challenge it has is how to
supply crude to Kaduna.
According to a source at the oil giant, ‘’The
pipeline was vandalized in 2010 and couldn’t be repaired because of continual
attacks by vandals stalling crude supply to the refinery.’’
Although the source, who pleaded
anonymity, didn’t want to disclose the cost of the repairs, he noted that the
project is expected to be completed very soon so that productions from the
three refineries in the country will meet substantial percentage of the
national fuel needs.
