The National Youth Service Corps
(NYSC) has outlawed pregnant women, nursing mothers and students engaged in
postgraduate studies from participating in the national service across the
country, until they are free to participate efficiently.
Speaking during a two-day
pre-mobilization workshop for the 2015 Batch “B” NYSC programme, held in
Kaduna, the Director General (DG), Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi said there was no
sense in pregnant women and nursing mothers being absent from the orientation
activities in most cases, only to resurface for posting to their various places
of primary assignments.
The Brig-Gen however reiterated that
henceforth, pregnant women and children would no longer be allowed into
orientation camps across the country for service under the scheme.
