Tom Moore, the cartoonist who created the legendary Archie comics, has died.
Moore passed away on Monday morning in his hometown of
El-Paso, Texas.
His death was confirmed by his son, Lito
Bujanda-Moore. He was aged 86.
Moore had started the Archie comics in 1953, and
retired from it in the late 1980s.
The comics were hugely popular, with the El Paso Times
reporting that in the 1960s, the comics sold over half a million yearly.
The editor-in-chief of Archie Comics, Victor Gorelick, expressed his
sadness at the news of Moore’s death.
“Tom was very funny and had a knack for putting
together really great, hilarious gags and special pages when he worked at
Archie,” Gorelick said.
“He was probably best known here for inking our
‘Jughead’ relaunch decades ago. We’re all sad to hear this news and wish his
family the very best during this time.”
