Buhari costs Hajj costs: President makes surprising move
Buhari cuts Hajj costs
President
Muhammad Buhari has
revealed that the Federal Government will not be playing a part in this year’s
Muslim Hajj pilgrimage.
Buhari revealed
that there will be no Federal Government delegation to Saudi Arabia, in a bid
to cut costs.
The government will however still provide medical and security
services for any citizens which chose to go for the pilgrimage.
About $1 million and N30 million in local expenses is expected
to be saved by Buhari’s unexpected decision.
The announcement was made by the Senior Special Assistant to the
President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu,
who added that the decision was not made because of any particular parties.
Buhari also added that the decision didn’t affect states, who
could still send delegates if they so desired.
“The states can deal with that (meaning appointment of own
delegations) but this year at the Center, we will not be involved” Shehu said.
