Fernando Torres says he intends
give everything to win the La Liga trophy with Atletico Madrid before he
retires.
The former Chelsea striker last won the Segunda with
Atleti in 2002 and has missed out on league trophies after failing to win it
with Liverpool and Chelsea.
Torres rejoined the 2013-14 champions and is focused
on winning it with the team.
“There are still trophies for me to win. For example,
I’m missing a league title. I have never won one and it would be very special
to win it with Atletico,” he told a press conference ahead of the pre-season
clash with Shanghai SIPG.
“You’ve always got to go for everything. I’d give my
life and everything I have to win that.
“I want to go on winning, I feel great and full of
enthusiasm for playing at the top level. I still have many years left to play
and I want to enjoy them here at Atleti.
“I want people to enjoy themselves along with me. I
want to win trophies, be it this season, next season or the one after.”
Torres has been handed the No.9 jersey ahead of the 2015-16
campaign following Mario Mandzukic’s move to Juventus and the Spain
international hopes it will bring about a “special” campaign.
“I am pleased to have the number I grew up with at the
club again,” added the 31-year-old. “This is a special season for me.”
Atleti take on Shanghai on Tuesday at 13.00CET.
