Former Manchester United
midfielder, David Beckham has been in the market in search of a home for the
football club he is part of setting up in Miami.
Beckham has been part of setting up the Miami
franchise which he co-owns and has reportedly identified the Orange Bowl,
former home of the Miami Dolphins as a potential ground base for the football
club which is set to kick off in the 2018 MLS season.
“We are as confident as
we have ever been that we can move this forward,” MLS commissioner Don
Garber told BBC Sport when speaking about Beckham and his
search for a stadium for his club. “We have to finalise a whole bunch of deals
with the city and the landowners but the site has been selected.” Garber told
reporters while sources close to Beckham revealed that the former England
captain was optimistic moving forward after months of searching.
David Beckham moved to USA in 2007 to join LA Galaxy
and immediately became one of the biggest stars in football in America. The
deal that took Beckham to LA involved a clause that would see him own an MLS
franchise at the end of his playing career (which is now).
“He is a big part of our history. MLS wouldn’t be what it is today if he hadn’t decided to come in 2007.” Garber also revealed that his organisation have been in talks with the Premier League about a potential tournament involving clubs from both divisions.
