A Maryland
teen was hit and killed by a train as he posed for photos on the tracks with
his girlfriend and twin sister.
John Martin DeReggi Jr, 16, was on the tracks on
Monday afternoon in Boyds, a town about 20 miles outside Washington, D.C. with
his girlfriend, Natalie Crim, who narrowly escaped the horrific accident.
DeReggi and his girlfriend — who were just
about to celebrate their one-year anniversary — were having their photos taken
by his twin sister when a train came through the area.
The girls went in one direction and DeReggi tried
to go in the other, but he didn’t get out of the way in time.

“John got hit by
the train!” Natalie screamed into the phone, Christine
DeReggi told the Washington Post.
The boy’s mom drove from her family’s home less
than half a mile to the tracks, where she found her son’s body.
“We’re all walking
through a nightmare right now,” she said after the teen’s death. “Everywhere we turn, it’s bad.”
A lot of kids from their school, Clarksburg High,
had taken pictures there, Natalie said.
Her twin, the photographer, planned to use the best
shots for a school project.
Montgomery County police said DeReggi was declared
dead at the scene.
