The Northern states chapter of
the Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN) has bemoaned the harassment of their members – female Muslim corps members – who are being forced to remove their hijab (head covering)
during orientation.
According to the Amir of the North-Central zone of
MCAN, Muhammad Lawal Yusuf, their members are subjected to humiliation in
South-Eastern part of the country as many of them are on the verge of being
sent out of their accommodation.
This, he said on Sunday in Ilorin, Kwara state
capital, when the representative of the association paid a courtesy visit on
the Sarkin Malamai of Ilorin, Justice Abdulkadir Orire.
The Amir added that they are at the judge’s home to
present some of their challenges to him being one of the founding fathers of
MCAN.
He also disclosed other challenges facing the
association; lack of finance to carry out their programmes, lack of
accommodation and refusal to allow female corp
members to wear their hijab.
