Police go after siren users
The Nigerian Police has stated its readiness to go after
unauthorized users of sirens in the country.
In a statement made by force’s
Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, the force
would use the existing list of allowed personnel to carry out their mission.
“We will still go by the Federal government circular in
implementing the directive,” Kolawole said.
“The police will not relent in their effort to carry out their
duty,” she said, adding that their efforts had already seen a drastic reduction
in siren usage.
“I just want to let you know that this current police
administration will not condone any act of public disorder, “ she said.
According to the 2012 circular, the people entitled to use
sirens are the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker, their
deputies, state governors and service chiefs.
Kolawole also spoke on the issue of tinted window permits,
warning people not to pay as the permit was free.
She urged anybody who was asked for money in exchange for the
permits to make a report.
“We are saying that if people were paying before they should not
do that any longer,” she said.
