West Ham produced an efficient
display to see off Newcastle United at the Boleyn Ground as two goals from
Dimitri Payet sealed a good victory for the Hammers
It took only 9 minutes for West Ham to go in front in
the match as Noble and Diafra Sakho combined well to set up Payet from the edge
of the box. The former Marseille man left Krul sprawling with no chance to make
it 1-0 to West Ham.
Both sides struggled to assert themselves in the first half
but West Ham enjoyed the better part of the exchanges and created more clear
cut chances. Within 2 minutes of the restart, Moses took on a defender, went
past him with his strength and pace before firing a shot onto the cross bar.
Payet was there to fire the rebound home and double West Ham’s lead, West Ham
had a few more chances to increase their lead but didn’t and Newcastle looked
defeated the moment they conceded the second goal and never really got going in
the second half.
The win today has seen West Ham leapfrog the likes of
Liverpool and Tottenham as the Hammers are now placed 5th on
the EPL log after five rounds of matches.
