Sheriff Takes Over PDP Leadership As IGP Orders Police To Vacate Secretariat

The ousted Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Modu Sheriff, has retaken his position as the party’s supreme leader following an order by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, that all policemen deployed to the National secretariat be withdrawn.

It would be recalled on May 21 at the party’s convention in Port Harcourt, Ahmed Markafi was appointed as the Chairman of the party’s caretaker committee. 

Ali Modu-Sheriff, and his supporters, early on Monday, stormed the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat to take over the party affairs.

In protest of what he perceived to be injustice, Sheriff stormed the PDP Wadata Plaza on Monday morning in company of his supporters and was denied access into the building by the police, four times.

Sheriff, some aides and supporters attempted to enter the building but were prevented from doing so by security personnel.

He however insisted that he is the authentic chairman of the party, berating alleged partisanship of the police.

The ousted chairman was then allowed access into the building, upon an order by the police chief, even as he took over the leadership of the party.
