Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will be hoping to become
the first Nigerian player to score an English Premier League goal in the
Manchester derby on Saturday when his Manchester City side line up against
rivals Manchester United.
The 19-year-old has the chance to make history as no Nigerian international has ever featured in the Manchester derby.
He will also become the third African at
Manchester City to have hit target in the Manchester derby after Ivory Coast’s
Yaya Toure and Zimbabwe’s Benjani Mwaruwari and the fourth African to feature
after the earlier pair and former Tunisian defender Hatem Trabelsi.The 19-year-old has the chance to make history as no Nigerian international has ever featured in the Manchester derby.
According to statistics, 21 different nationalities have scored in the Manchester derby and a goal from Iheanacho for City could swell the number to 22 while 38 goals have been netted by Englishmen during clashes.
Iheanacho has made two substitute appearances for City this season and he looks to play a part in Saturday’s game with Sergio Aguero suspended.
