The family of the Marshals' are yet to confirm reports about the passing of the deceased who was 34 years old until her death.
This is a sad turn of event for the revered 60-year-old musician who celebrated the academic achievements of one of his children earlier in the year.

Buhari commends Lagos, Kebbi over lake rice



President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday commended Lagos and Kebbi States for the successful partnership that gave rise to the local production of LAKE Rice (Lagos-Kebbi Rice).
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President lauded the commitment of Governors Akinwunmi Ambode and Atiku Bagudu in bringing to fruition the Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2016 on substantially meeting the country’s rice requirement.

FRSC: Five die in Anambra road crash



Five passengers of an Onitsha bound commercial vehicle on Friday lost their lives when the Toyota Previa vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck near Abba junction in Anambra State, on the Enugu- Onitsha expressway.
Mr Sunday Ajayi, the state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the deaths in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Libya passenger jet hijacked, diverted to Malta



A Libyan aircraft with 118 people on board has been hijacked by a man claiming to have a hand grenade, media in Malta reported.
The hijacker told the crew he was “pro-Gaddafi” and that he was willing to let all 111 passengers leave the Airbus A320, but not its seven crew, if his demands were met, the Times of Malta said.

NUPENG gives notice of 3-day warning strike in Jan 2017



Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has given notice of a 3-day nation-wide warning strike from the first week of January 2017, over unresolved labour issues with multinationals operating in the oil and gas industry.
 President of the union, Mr. Igwe Achese, in a statement, yesterday, said the decision was taken at the end of the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday. He warned that the 3-day warning strike was preparatory to a nation-wide strike if there was no intervention by the Federal Government.

One million boys invades community, cuts victim’s hand



Some hooligans, popularly called One million boys, on Tuesday invaded the Kudeti area of Ibadan, attacking youths in the area.
It was gathered that they also cut off the hand of one of their victims.

A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that the hooligans invaded the area because youths in the communities refused to join the group after several attempts to woo them.

Govt gives Lagosians till December 16 to pay taxes



The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service says all taxpayers that have yet to fulfil their obligation have between December 1 and 16, 2016, to remit overdue taxes and levies to avoid prosecution.
The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Mr. Ayodele Subair, on Wednesday stated that the agency had, in the last few months, embarked on massive advocacy and enlightenment programmes, educating Lagos taxpayers on the laws bordering on tax administration and the benefits of paying taxes as and when due.

Manchester City are preparing to step up their interest in Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon, according to the Daily Mail.
City have been impressed with the 16-year-old’s development at Craven Cottage this season and are looking to beat Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to the promising left-back.
Arsenal had a £3m offer rejected in January.
Sessegnon could follow in the footsteps of Patrick Roberts in making the move as a promising youngster from Fulham to City.

Tension in Rivers State ahead of rerun elections



There is tension in Rivers State ahead of Saturday’s rerun elections.
Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has accused Governor Nyesom Wike of being behind killings in Rivers State.

He spoke with reporters on Tuesday night at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
But, Wike, through his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, described Amaechi’s statement as “a sewage of lies”.

Torment on Lagos-Ibadan expressway



Of late, plying the Lagos -Ibadan expressway has become a torment for commuters, especially those residing along the Mowe-Ibafo axis of Ogun State. It is rather sad that a journey that should ordinarily not take more than 15 -20 minutes now takes over four hours and even more.
