Floyd
Mayweather Jr. has announced he will face Haitian boxer Andre Berto in what may be his last professional
fight.
The bout is Mayweather’s 6th and last on his contract
with Showtime, and he’s stated in the past that he will retire after it.
Berto, a former welterweight champion, has a 30-3
record, with those 3 losses coming in his last 6 matches.
“I always bring my A-game and this fight against Andre
Berto is no exception,” said Mayweather.
“He’s a young, strong fighter who is hungry to take
down the best – 48 have tried before and on 12 September, I’m going to make it
49.”
British boxer Amir
Khan had been
hoping to secure Mayweather’s last fight, but was rebuffed.
