Benzema On Target As Real Madrid Beat Atletico Bilbao 2-1

Real Madrid put in a good display and earned a deserved win over Atletico Bilbao at the San Mames Barria Stadium.

Atletico Bilbao were defending well as Real Madrid came out on the attack until the 15th minute when San Jose under-hit his pass to Iraioz and Benzema in his typical poacher nature ran onto the ball anf fired home past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Real Madrid controlled proceedings but found it hard to get past the Atletico Bilbao backline and in the second half, Ronaldo and Kovacic were cutting frustrated figures more than once. Altetico Madrid finally got a gift of a goal in the 67th minute when Merino converted Susaeta’s ball into the box to make it 1-0. Real Madrid responded immediately, taking the lead in the 70th minute through Benzema who got in behind to convert Isco’s pass. Atletico Madrid searched desperately for an Equalizer but Real Madrid held firm to claim victory.

Real Madrid have now moved into 1st place in the la liga with 13 points from a possible 15 and keeping themselves 1 point ahead of Barcelona.
