Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero
struck late in the game to salvage a draw for Argentina against mexico after
Javier Hernandez and Herrera had put the Mexicans in front early in the game.
The Argentines were all over the place in the opening
minutes of the game and the lack coordination in their play was
uncharacteristic of an Argentina side. Argentina soon found themselves behind
as Raul Jiminez was brought down by Otamendi in the box. The resulting penalty
was taken by Javier Hernandez and unlike the match against club Brugge,
Hernandez found the bottom corner from the spot to make it 1-0. Argentina took
control of the game from that point. Argentina dominated until the second half
but the Mexican defense held firm against Messi and co. in the 70th minute, Argentina fell further behind
as Layun found Herrera with a cross and the Porto man finished smartly into the
net. Argentina saved it late in the game as Aguero began the fight back in the
85th minute, knocking Lavezzi’s square pass
into the net after some good build up play. Argentina then camped in and around
the Mexico area until the 89th minute when Aguero found Messi un the
box and the Barcelona man made no mistake to make it 2-2.
Mexico would be disappointed at their inability to
hold on till the end of the game and Gerrardo Martino would be disappointed
that Argentina could not run riot over Mexico
