The Nasarawa State chapter of the
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has turned down plans by the state government to
pay its workers their August salaries through table payment.
The state NLC Chairman, Mr Abdullahi Adeka, made this
known during an interview with pressmen in Lafia on Tuesday.
According to him: “If the government refuses to adhere to the
terms of the agreement reached with the union to pay workers through their
respective banks; we would go on strike.
“This
is what we can do in order to prevent the stress and the undue delays in the
payments of our August salaries.’’
He urged the government to respect the agreement
reached on the mode of payment of the salaries, maintaining that this was
necessary in order to sustain the existing industrial harmony in the state.
“We have already agreed that salaries would be paid through the
banks and anything short of what we agreed on, the union would not take it
lightly,’’ he said.
He, therefore, advised workers in the state not to
turnout for any scheduled table payments.
It would be recalled, NAN reports that Dr Dominic
Bako, the state’s Head of Civil Service, on Sept. 4, said all workers in the
state would receive their salaries through table payments.
