Over Missing 2016 Budget, 5 Senate Workers Grilled

        President Buhari places the 2016 Budget before a joint session of the National Assembly

Five senior civil servants of the National Assembly have been quizzed on Wednesday, January 13, by the Senate Joint Committee in connection with the alleged disappearance of the 2016 budget, which was presented by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was made known by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and another member of the committee, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

According to information gathered, the employees, who were grilled are from the offices of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Clerk to the Senate, Senate Leader and Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) and Rules and Business.

Mr Anyanwu disclosed that the Joint Senate Committee would submit their report on Thursday, January 14, which would be discussed at either in closed session or in plenary.

He said: “We have concluded our investigation and the report will be submitted for everybody to see and we will debate it.”

In the same vein, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi averred that the document is missing, in spite of series of denials by the Senate leadership.

“The document is missing; we want to find out. We have interviewed some people so far this morning. We are continuing in the next few minutes with our investigation. We are almost through with it. We will conclude in the next few hours because we have already known what is happening.”
