In search of more evidence linking
him to the ongoing investigation into the $2.1 billion arms purchase scandal,
operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have during
the weekend raided the offices of former vice president Namadi Sambo in the
central business district, Abuja.
It was gathered that the ransack
was carried out on the building which houses a top European High Commission’s
Visa Processing Centre opposite the National Defence College, Abuja, throwing
some occupants into commotion.
The anti-graft agency seized $50,000 found in his safe, as
source close to the polity confirmed that on Monday, February 1, that the
operatives broke into the safe kept by the former vice president and removed
whatever valuable they found, including top branded wrist watches, assets
declaration forms, and list of landed property.
The raid, followed discovery that one Mr. Abba Dabo (Sambo’s
aide), was culpable of collecting N25 million from the embattled National
Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, as
part of the sum he got from the former NSA, Dasuki Sambo in December 2014.
It was also believed that the raid took place a few days after
Mr. Sambo was said to have moved some vital documents from his residence to the
office in the Central Business District, in many bags, which were thought to
contain foreign currency.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the raid has angered Sambo’s
lawyers, who felt that it was improper for the anti-graft agency to break into
the office of their client without a valid search warrant.
